About Gail Ouellette (Ph.D.), 2013 Canadian Ataxia Conference speaker:

Gail Ouellette is the Executive Director of Regroupement Québécois des Naladies Orphelines (RQMO). Gail is also a PH.D. geneticist and a genetic counselor approved (NHQMC). She was founding President of the Quebec Coalition of Orphan Diseases and Rare Diseases Information Portal Quebec.

Gail earned her Ph.D. in molecular genetics at the University of Montreal. She did postdoctoral studies in genetic epidemiology at the Center for Human Genetics in Leuven, Belgium. She was a researcher at Algene Biotechnology/SIGNALGENE where she worked in the search for genes of complex diseases such as Alzheimer's disease.

In 1999, she left the lab to complete a Master's Degree in genetic counseling at McGill University in order to focus on clinical genetics. She worked as a genetic counselor at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke and Procréa Clinics in Montreal.

Since 2005, she has volunteered with several associations of rare diseases in Quebec (including former Quebec Portal orphan genetic diseases) and Canada (including the Canadian Organization for Rare Disorders [CORD]).
