About Dr. Teesta Soman, MBBS, FAAP, MBA, Canadian Ataxia Conference 2012 presenter:

Dr. Soman is a full time staff neurologist at SickKids and an Assistant Professor of Paediatrics, University of Toronto. Dr. Soman received her degree in medicine from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, India. She then completed the Residency Program in Pediatrics at the University of Illinois in Chicago, USA. She completed her fellowship in Pediatric Neurology form Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. She has successfully completed her American Board certification examinations and is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in 1999 and by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with special competence in Child Neurology in 2002.

Her main areas of interest are stroke, movement disorders and neonatal neurology. Dr. Soman is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Neurology and the Child Neurology Society. Dr. Soman also holds an MBA degree from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, and has a keen interest in health care marketing and management.

She is active in the education of post-graduate residents and fellows and is a member of the Education Committee in the Division of Neurology and the Continuing Education Committee in the Department of Paediatrics at SickKids. In 2003 Dr. Soman was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma Honour Society. Her current research activities are the development of a web-based tool for teaching diagnosis and management of children with movement disorders to trainees and health care professionals. She is also researching application of novel tools for the management of dystonia in children.
